Getting Started with Rehaunted
Install, kit, radio, and a first-hour checklist before the house starts contradicting itself.
Rehaunted is a short, first-person psychological detective horror game from Cauchemar (Cauchemar Studio). You play Connor Raines, a detective sent to a house where a young woman has been found dead. The assignment looks routine. It is not. Blood traces, fingerprints, hidden recordings, and personal belongings start disagreeing with each other, and the design is that you assemble a conclusion instead of unlocking a single official answer.
This page is the first-session checklist: what to install, what to expect in the opening hour, and which wiki pages to open when the house pushes back. For a full method after you are inside, use the investigation walkthrough. For the kit itself, see how to investigate. Return to the Guides Hub when you need the whole map.
Before you launch
Rehaunted launched on 14 September 2026 on PC via Steam only. There is no console version at launch; consoles are a later conversation, not a day-one SKU. It is single-player, with a campaign the store page clocks at about two to three hours, full controller support, and 22 Steam achievements.
Windows 11 is required. Minimum: 64-bit Windows 11, Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 16 GB RAM, and a GeForce GTX 1070 Ti-class GPU. Recommended graphics sit at an RTX 3070. If you are still on Windows 10, do not expect a supported install. Steam lists about 12 GB of disk space. The full table is on system requirements.
Launch price sits around $7.99 USD, with an introductory −10% taking it to about $7.19 until 28 September 2026. Regional storefronts show local currency. Confirm the live price on the Steam page before you budget a sale that has already ended.
Set audio before you care about graphics. Rehaunted sells tension through mix, radio chatter, and the feeling that the house is not empty — not through a combat HUD. Headphones help you hear chase pressure and tool feedback. If you use a controller, keep a keyboard nearby for the first session in case a radial menu sticks. Confirm expected binds on controls. That launch issue, and others, live on tips and known bugs.
First-session checklist
- Confirm Windows 11, a current GPU driver, and a finished install.
- Pick keyboard and mouse or controller, then test look sensitivity and the tool wheel in a lit space before you commit to a dark room.
- Raise dialogue and effect volumes so radio options are readable. Launch players have reported a radio timer with missing choices. If a prompt looks incomplete, do not mash: back out, retry, and keep notes for Steam discussions after you play.
- Treat the house as a crime scene, not a haunted-house sprint. Your job is to look, photograph, and compare.
- On the first pass through a space, record what is visible to the naked eye. Do not assume that is the whole room.
- Second pass: UV flashlight. Third pass: magnifier. Paranormal traces and some clues are often only visible through the magnifier.
- Call in findings on the walkie-talkie. Dialogue with your partner detective expands the investigation and challenges your theory. It is not flavor text.
- Pin contradictions on the evidence board instead of deleting the clue that does not fit. Disagreement is the point.
- When the tall supernatural woman starts hunting, survival comes first. Locked rooms are not guaranteed safe; launch reports say the entity can spawn inside them. Read how to survive.
- Stop when you can explain the night in your own words, not when a narrator grades you. See endings explained.
The IGN gameplay capture on this page is long enough to show pacing, tool use, and how the house feels. Watch it if you want motion and audio reference. Skip it if you want a cold open with no extra images in your head.
Your tools in the first hour
Connor does not arrive with a gun loadout. He arrives with a forensic kit:
- UV flashlight — residual traces, stains, and marks ordinary light will not show.
- Camera — a record of what you saw, where, and in what state, especially when a later clue contradicts an earlier photo.
- Magnifier — close inspection, and the lens through which paranormal details often appear. If a room feels empty, look through it anyway.
- Walkie-talkie — talk with a second detective. Use it when you find something that changes the story, not only when the game nags you.
- Evidence board — the place contradictions are supposed to live.
If you only remember one habit: never clear a room with a single light setting. Naked-eye, UV, and magnifier are three different maps of the same space. How to investigate expands each tool. Character framing for Connor sits on Connor Raines; the rest of the case is on the players hub.
Radio, partner, and what not to expect
You are alone in the house and not alone on the channel. Radio talk is how Rehaunted tests theories. Choose lines that match what you have documented, not the twist you want. If a timer appears and an option is missing, treat it as a launch bug, not a hidden skill check. Retry the prompt; then keep playing the case rather than hunting a “correct” line.
Do not expect a partner standing in the room, a day-one console port, or a wiki page that lists a canonical number of endings. Mixed launch reviews (about 40% positive from a small sample of roughly 15 Steam reviews) also flag polish. If you want atmosphere and a compact detective loop, start. If you need a bug-free chase, wait for notes on the updates hub and skim the launch review.
Then go back into the house and look again.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What do I need to run Rehaunted?
Windows 11, 16 GB RAM, and a GTX 1070 Ti-class GPU at minimum (RTX 3070 recommended). It is Steam PC only at launch, single-player, with full controller support.
How long is the first playthrough?
Cauchemar lists about two to three hours. Investigation habits in how to investigate matter more than rushing to a credits roll.
Should I watch the gameplay video before I play?
Only if you want pacing and tool reference. Skip it for a cold open. Either way, follow the checklist above and the investigation walkthrough once you are inside.
The radial menu or radio prompt is broken. Is that me?
Probably not. Launch reports include a stuck radial menu and a radio timer with missing options. See tips and known bugs and check Steam discussions as patches land.
Does the game tell me who is guilty?
No. You build a conclusion from contradictory evidence. Endings explained covers what that design means without inventing a canon list.
