Rehaunted on Steam Deck

Studio playability claim, FSR/XeSS and frame generation, store Unknown caveat, and handheld control tips.

Steam Deck Playability

Cauchemar has said Rehaunted is fully playable on Steam Deck. That is a studio performance claim, not a Valve Verified badge. The Steam store for app 4538140 may still list Deck compatibility as Unknown. Both sentences can be true at the same time: the team shipped a handheld config, and Valve’s crawler has not stamped the store row yet.

This page keeps those two facts in one place, repeats the studio’s Med/High plus upscaler guidance, and translates first-person investigation controls onto a Deck without inventing a community layout ID. Pair it with the PC spec table on system requirements and the bind checklist on controls.

Store Unknown versus studio “fully playable”

Steam Deck compatibility on the store is a Valve label: Verified, Playable, Unsupported, or Unknown. At launch week Rehaunted can still show Unknown. Unknown means Valve has not published a final result this wiki can quote. It does not mean the game refuses to boot. It does not overrule a studio post that says the team tested Deck.

How to read that without lying:

  • Believe the studio for “we targeted Deck and it is fully playable” — that is a developer statement about their build.
  • Believe the store for the badge you will see on the product page until Valve updates it.
  • Believe your refund window if the handheld session is unplayable on your unit. Steam policy is still Steam policy. This wiki cannot extend it.

Do not write “Verified” in a comment because a wiki page said playable. Do not write “unplayable” because the badge still says Unknown. Check both, then play.

The official PC sheet remains Windows 11 64-bit, 16 GB of RAM, and a GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 6 GB class GPU at minimum (RTX 3070 recommended). Deck is a separate handheld target. This page will not invent a Proton version string, a SteamOS build number, or an AMD APU SKU Cauchemar did not publish.

Studio performance claim: Med/High, 30–40 FPS, FSR or XeSS + frame generation

Cauchemar’s Deck guidance, as this wiki records it, is:

  • Fully playable.
  • Medium or High presets, generally around 30–40 FPS and staying above 30 when FSR or XeSS plus Frame Generation are enabled.
  • Low can go higher, per the same studio note. Stay on Med/High unless you need the extra frames.

That is a target band, not a promise that every hallway holds 40. Dark interiors, sudden entity work, and UI overlays (radial menu, UV blob, radio timer) are the real cost of Rehaunted, not an open-world stream. If frame time spikes during a timed radio prompt, you can miss a line. Cap expectations at “investigation-stable,” not “competitive 90 Hz.”

Practical settings habits that do not invent extra sliders:

  1. Pick FSR or XeSS, then add Frame Generation the way the in-game Options labels them. Do not stack three upscalers. The studio named FSR or XeSS plus FG.
  2. Stay on Medium or High. Ultra is not in the studio Deck sentence. If the image crawls, drop a preset before you download a random “ultimate config.”
  3. Prefer a stable 30 over a wild 50. Radio dialogue can sit on a timer. A hitch plus a timer is how an investigation loses a line. See radio dialogue.
  4. Brightness before sharpening. Fake sharpening sparkles UV noise and lies about stains. If you cannot read a print, raise brightness a notch.
  5. TDP and 40/60 Hz refresh are Deck-level tools. This wiki will not publish a watt number Cauchemar did not. If the fan is a jet and FPS is still in the 20s, lower the preset, then check FSR/XeSS, then stop.

PC players with NVIDIA cards should also look at DLSS on the desktop spec page. Deck guidance from the studio names FSR and XeSS. Use what the Options screen actually lists on the device in your hands.

Controls on a handheld

Rehaunted is first-person investigation with a radial tool menu: UV flashlight, camera, magnifier, radio, evidence board. Full controller support is in the launch build for Xbox and PlayStation layouts. Deck is a controller that also has trackpads.

Tips that match the game we have, not a fictional gyro bible:

  • Learn the radial in a lit room. Launch reports include a stuck radial menu and a flashlight overlay that will not dismiss. You do not want to discover that mid-hunt. Practice open → highlight → release. Workarounds: tips and known bugs.
  • Magnifier wants precision. A mouse is kinder. On Deck, lower right-stick sensitivity and consider the right trackpad for lens work if the in-game Options plus Steam Input let you. Do not assume a studio-published Deck profile exists; confirm binds in Options, then in Steam Input.
  • Radio is a bind and a conversation. Stop moving, face a quiet corner, key the radio, pick a line. Timed prompts can misfire on PC; a 30 FPS handheld hitch does not help. Update 01 adjusted enclosed-room spawns and lets you photograph the entity to blind it and run through. It did not advertise a radio fix.
  • Do not camp tiny rooms. Update 01 moved spawn points away from tiny enclosed spaces, but a lock is still not a sanctuary. How to survive still applies in handheld.
  • Pause is cheap. Two to three hours is the whole campaign. If the overlay owns the screen, pause, reload, or return to the menu. Fighting the UI through a chase wastes a larger fraction of the game on Deck than on a desk.

Expected keyboard and pad defaults live on controls. Cauchemar has not published an official bind PDF. Your Options screen is the chart.

What Deck does not change

  • Single-player only. The second detective is on the radio, not on a second Deck.
  • About two to three hours. Length: how long to beat.
  • Windows 11 is still the PC OS line. Deck is not a Windows 10 workaround for a desktop that cannot install 11.
  • Mixed launch reviews on a small Steam sample are about the game, not about Valve’s badge. Polish complaints (radio timer, radial, spawns) can still appear on handheld.
  • 22 achievements still exist. Unlock names: Steam achievements. Toasts do not care which form factor you used.

Consoles are planned later and are not this page. If you wanted a PlayStation or Xbox SKU, you are still waiting. Deck is the handheld conversation that exists today because the studio addressed it.

Buy / play checklist for Deck owners

  1. Read the live store badge. If it still says Unknown, that is expected until Valve updates it.
  2. Install, set Medium or High, enable FSR or XeSS plus Frame Generation, then test a still interior before you care about the tall woman.
  3. Confirm radial, UV, magnifier, radio, and board in Options. Do the 60-second drill from controls.
  4. Play the first room with the Getting Started checklist. If the session is a slideshow or the UI is stuck, stop inside the refund window.
  5. When a patch lands, prefer Update 01 and Steam news over a three-week-old Deck screenshot.

If the handheld loop is stable, spend your attention on the detective toolkit, not on overlay software. Rehaunted is short. Looking carefully is the whole game — even at 30 FPS on a seven-inch screen.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is Rehaunted Verified on Steam Deck?

Not a claim this wiki will make. The studio says fully playable. The store may still say Unknown. Valve's badge and Cauchemar's post are different documents.

What settings did the studio suggest?

Medium or High, with FSR or XeSS plus Frame Generation, targeting about 30–40 FPS. Confirm the labels in your Options screen.

Will it run if I am on Windows 10 desktop?

Deck playability does not waive the PC store requirement of Windows 11. See system requirements.

Are the controls worse on Deck?

Magnifier work is harder without a mouse. Full controller support is in the build. Learn the radial in a safe room using controls.

Did Update 01 make Deck better?

Update 01 changed entity photo-blind collision (photograph, then run through) and enclosed-room spawns. It did not advertise a radio-timer fix. Track it on Update 01.
