Rehaunted Connor Raines

The detective who walks into a straightforward case that will not stay straightforward.

Connor Raines

Connor Raines is the only character you play in Rehaunted. Official copy is brief on purpose: he arrives at a house where a young woman has been found dead, expecting a case that will resolve into a file, and instead spends two to three hours inside a property where blood, prints, recordings, and belongings refuse to agree. You see his hands, his kit, and his point of view. You do not get a long origin comic.

This page stays inside that official outline. It will not invent a precinct, a dead partner, a divorce, or a childhood trauma just to fill space. If the game later gives Connor a biography in a document or a radio aside, believe the game. Until then, play him as what the design actually supports: a detective whose job is to look, record, and argue with incomplete information while something in the house tries to stop the looking.

What “playing Connor” means

Rehaunted is first-person. Connor is a camera, a pair of hands, and a voice on a radio loop. That is not a criticism. It means your habits become his:

  • If you rush, Connor rushes. You will miss UV blooms and photograph the wrong wall.
  • If you tunnel on the magnifier, Connor is blind in the doorway. The tall presence in the house punishes that.
  • If you treat the radio as skippable flavor, Connor is alone with whatever story he already likes.
  • If you pin every prop on the board, Connor has a collage and no argument.

The honest way to inhabit him is to work like a tired professional on a bad night: slow in the rooms, fast only when survival requires it, and suspicious of neat narratives. How to investigate is the method. How to survive is the interrupt. Connor is the person stuck doing both jobs at once.

He is not a silent walking-sim mannequin in the marketing. Radio dialogue gives him a professional register — report, question, push back. You choose lines that expand the investigation. Those choices are how Cauchemar lets you be Connor without a skill tree. They are not morality meters with published outcomes. Endings explained covers what “build your own conclusion” means at the end of the night; it does not require you to role-play a secret third alignment.

The kit is his personality on the table

Steam lists Connor’s working tools: UV flashlight, camera, magnifier, walkie-talkie, and evidence board. That list is the character sheet.

  • UV — he is willing to see stains other people cleaned. Use it as a pass, then kill the light. A detective who lives in purple glare misses the room.
  • Camera — he believes a still image will outlast a scare. Photograph contradictions, not mood.
  • Magnifier — he will put his face on a fiber while the house moves. Do that on purpose, then stand up.
  • Radio — he is not actually alone. He also cannot outsource judgment to the voice that is not in the hallway.
  • Board — he is supposed to reconstruct events. If Connor’s board is only gore, Connor has failed the assignment even if you “finished” the house.

The detective toolkit page is the mechanical version of this list. Read it as Connor’s professional standards, not as loot.

Launch bugs can impersonate Connor’s incompetence. A stuck radial menu makes him look like he cannot put a flashlight down. A radio timer glitch makes him look like he ignored his partner. Clipping and odd entity spawns make him look like he walked through a wall. Check tips and bugs before you decide the detective is written as a fool.

What we do not know (and will not fake)

As of launch, public materials do not give Connor:

  • A published age, rank, or badge number.
  • A named precinct or city you can trust outside the house.
  • A family member list.
  • A confirmed relationship to the victim beyond “this is his case.”

Fan comments will fill those gaps in twenty minutes. This wiki will not. If a document in the house claims a biography, treat it as evidence — which, in Rehaunted, means it might contradict the next document. That is the point of the game, not a failure of this page.

The credits may list the performer who voices or models him. Read the credits. Do not confuse a Steam forum nickname with a studio announcement.

How Connor relates to everyone else

  • The victim — the assignment. Connor’s job is to reconstruct her night, not to avenge a trailer beat. Keep her human on the board: belongings, timelines, and impossible pairs. Details without plot dump: cast and entity.
  • The radio partner — professional friction. They challenge assumptions. You decide which challenges are useful. They cannot hold the magnifier for you.
  • The tall woman — not a client, not a witness in any ordinary sense. She is why Connor cannot treat the house as a static puzzle box. When she is present, he is an animal with a flashlight. When she is gone, he is a detective again. Switching between those modes is the skill.

There is no second playable detective. There is no drop-in friend. Connor’s isolation is structural: single-player, PC Steam, you and a radio.

A practical Connor checklist for the first hour

  1. Confirm binds so “Connor” can raise UV and the magnifier without a menu panic. Controls.
  2. Do one fully lit room the slow way: eyes, UV, lens, photo, radio, board.
  3. Write one impossible pair in your own words. If you cannot, you have atmosphere and no case.
  4. When the house goes occupied, drop the lens and survive. Returning to the pair is what makes him a detective instead of a camera operator.
  5. Do not force a culprit at the 40-minute mark. The design is withholding. Let the walkthrough sequence rooms if you are lost, but keep Connor’s conclusions tentative until the board is dense.

If you want a first-session script that includes settings and room order, start with Getting Started. If you want to know whether playing Connor is worth the two hours on the launch build, read the review after you understand that you will not receive a stamped solution.

Connor Raines is a job title the game lets you wear. Wear it like someone who knows the file will still be ugly when the credits roll.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is Connor Raines a silent protagonist?

No. You get radio dialogue and investigation talk. He is still a first-person avatar with a short official biography.

Can I play as anyone else?

No. Rehaunted is single-player and Connor is the only player character. The radio partner is a voice, not a swap.

Does Connor have a published backstory?

Not in the store copy or press kit this wiki will treat as fact. In-game documents are evidence, which in Rehaunted may contradict other evidence.

What tools does Connor carry?

UV flashlight, camera, magnifier, radio, and an evidence board. Full use-cases are on the detective toolkit page.

How should I role-play him?

Like a detective collecting contradictions, not like a speedrunner or a ghost hunter scoring a type. How to investigate matches that stance.
