Radio Dialogue in Rehaunted
A partner on the walkie-talkie, timers that can fail, and conversation that widens the case instead of grading it.
The walkie-talkie is how Rehaunted keeps you from investigating in a vacuum. Connor Raines is alone in the house and not alone on the channel. You report, a second detective pushes back, and dialogue choices can expand the story, challenge an assumption, and move the case without handing you a stamped answer. This page is the radio as a tool: when to key it, how timers behave at launch, and what Update 01 did not claim to fix.
Gadget reference for the rest of the kit is the detective toolkit. Mindset for contradictory clues is how to investigate. This article stays on the conversation.
A partner, not a hint button
Steam copy spends real space on radio communication: stay in contact, discuss discoveries, choose lines that expand the investigation. Tech coverage of the game treats that loop as theory-testing. You are not collecting three matching proofs for a validated ghost type. You are arguing a file with someone who cannot see the room.
This wiki does not name the partner. Cauchemar has not published a cast list this page will invent. Play the voice you are given. Character framing for Connor and that voice sits on the players hub and cast and entity.
What the radio is for:
- Reporting a contradiction (blood versus a locked inner door, a recording versus a belonging), not a vibe (“this house is evil”).
- Letting the partner challenge the theory you are about to crown after one room.
- Opening questions you would not have asked if you had stayed mute.
What the radio is not for:
- A skippable voicemail gag.
- A “press to reveal the culprit” button. Endings explained is explicit: official ending counts are unconfirmed; conclusions are player-built.
- A combat ping. The tall woman is a survival interrupt. Keying the radio in her face is how you miss both the hunt and the line. Survive first: how to survive.
If you only radio when the UI nags you, you will treat dialogue as flavor. If you radio every cupboard, you will not notice when a timed prompt is missing options. Report when the board would change.
Timers, missing options, and launch friction
Launch players reported a radio dialogue timer that can fail: a prompt expires, a line sticks, choices do not appear, or the conversation ignores a finding you just called in. Mixed Steam reviews on a small sample (about 40% positive from roughly 15 reviews) include that class of complaint. It is not a nitpick in a game whose store page says talk expands the story.
Habits that reduce (not eliminate) the problem:
- Stop moving. Face a wall or a clear doorway. Do not start a conversation while sprinting toward a noise.
- Raise dialogue in the mix. Headphones help. A buried prompt looks like a skipped scene.
- Do not mash. Let the widget populate. If a choice is blank, back out if the UI allows and reopen.
- Retry once, then swap input once (controller to keyboard or the reverse) in case the cursor is not on the missing item. Expected binds: controls.
- If the partner stays muted, pause and reload the last stable moment. Losing a few minutes is better than inventing a “silence ending” that nobody official has documented.
Do not assume a blank option is a secret achievement path. Steam achievements lists public titles and refuses exact unlocks. A dead timer is a bug until Cauchemar says otherwise. Workarounds also live on tips and known bugs.
A hitch can desync a timer. That is one reason system requirements treat a GTX 1070 Ti-class floor as relevant on a two-to-three-hour investigation: you need frame time stable enough to click a line. Handheld players should read Steam Deck playability before they blame themselves for a missed option at 30 FPS.
Update 01 did not fix the radio
Cauchemar’s first named pass, Update 01, targeted other launch pain:
- Photograph the entity to blind it, then run through its collision instead of getting stuck on the model.
- Spawn points adjusted away from tiny enclosed rooms.
Those changes matter for survival and for the clock on how long to beat. They are not a walkie-talkie hotfix. This wiki will not claim Update 01 repaired the dialogue timer, populated missing choices, or rebuilt the radio widget. If a later Steam news post names the radio, that sentence belongs on the updates desk with a date. Until then, play as if the launch timer bug can still happen.
The radial menu and flashlight overlay are in the same “not claimed fixed” bucket. If the tool wheel eats input, you cannot even open the radio. Practice the wheel in a lit room. If it sticks, use the overlay steps on tips and known bugs before you decide the partner “ignored” you.
How talk actually expands the story
Dynamic narration is a Steam tag, not a visual-novel flowchart this wiki can reprint. Still, the design is coherent if you play it as argument:
- Document, then speak. Photograph or magnify first. A line you choose without evidence is fanfic you will later remember as a clue.
- Say the fight out loud. “The blood trail and the locked door cannot both be first” is useful. The partner can push on that. “I think it was a haunting” is a conclusion you have not earned yet.
- Pick the question you care about when choices appear. Rehaunted does not publish a correct case file. Choose the probe that matches what you have on the board, not the twist you want.
- Leave disagreements pinned. If the partner offers a neater story than your UV pass, keep both cards. The board is where the game’s thesis lives.
Replay is how you test whether talk matters. A two-to-three-hour runtime is short enough to run once believing recordings and once believing blood. Change when you radio as well as what you click. Timing is part of investigation. It is not a published branching chart.
The magnifier still comes first when a surface looks empty. Studio messaging is that paranormal and some clues often resolve through the lens. Radio cannot describe a print you refused to look at. Toolkit extras the studio announced (rebuilt magnifier, UV interactions, phone, laptop, hidden numbers) are inspection problems, not dialogue codes. Do not ask the partner to recite a PIN this wiki will not invent.
A working radio loop
- Clear enough of the room that you can stand still.
- Finish the pass you were on (naked-eye, UV, or magnifier).
- Key the radio with one contradiction, not a tour of the furniture.
- If a timer appears, pick a line you can defend. If the widget fails, retry; do not mythologize it.
- Pin the result on the board as claimed (partner) versus observed (you).
- Only then walk toward the next noise.
Skip the call when the tall woman occupies the hallway. Resume when you can hear. The walkthrough can route you through the property; it cannot hold the argument for you. The radio is how the case stays a conversation instead of a screenshot dump.
When Steam news names a radio patch, return to Update 01 and the updates hub. Until that sentence exists, treat the walkie-talkie as essential, timed, and slightly untrustworthy — like every other witness in the house.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Who is the detective on the radio?
Cauchemar has not published a name this wiki will invent. Play the voice in your build. Framing lives on the players hub.
Did Update 01 fix the radio timer?
No claim this wiki will make. Update 01 advertised entity photo-blind collision and enclosed-room spawn changes, not a walkie-talkie hotfix. See Update 01.
Should I radio during a chase?
No. Survive first with how to survive, then call in a specific contradiction when you can hear the options.
Does picking the "wrong" line lock a bad ending?
Official ending counts are unconfirmed. Choose lines you can defend on the board. Read endings explained instead of a fake flowchart.
The prompt showed blank choices. Did I fail?
Probably a launch timer bug. Retry, swap input once, reload if the partner is muted. Steps are on tips and known bugs.
