Launch Notes

Rehaunted is out now. Cauchemar released the game on PC Steam on 14 September 2026, two days after a studio news post titled in the spirit of “we are finally ready.” The launch news added a number the team said they never expected to type: nearly 100,000 wishlists. That is the official day-one context. This page is the wiki snapshot of that week — what you are buying, what the first reviews actually say, which bugs are already in circulation, and which URLs to watch instead of rumor accounts.

If you only need a play path, leave after the facts block and open Getting Started. If you only need a workaround, skip to the issues list and then tips and bugs. If you already downloaded the first named patch, the changelog is Update 01 Patch Notes.

Buy, platform, and what is not in the box

  • Store: Steam — Rehaunted (app 4538140)
  • Date: 14 Sep 2026
  • OS: Windows 11 64-bit (min and rec). Not a Windows 10 title.
  • Length: About two to three hours, single-player.
  • Price: About $7.99, with an introductory $7.19 offer until 28 Sep 2026.
  • Features: 22 Steam achievements, Family Sharing, full controller support in the build for Xbox and PlayStation layouts.
  • Not at launch: Consoles. Extra-player modes are not in the product. Steam Deck: the store badge is Unknown; Cauchemar’s 12 Sep ready post claims the game is fully playable start to finish on Deck (see below).

Read system requirements before you treat the intro price as automatically worth it. A GTX 1070 Ti 6 GB class GPU and 16 GB of RAM are the floor. Refunds follow Steam’s normal rules; this wiki cannot extend them.

Wishlist still exists as a Steam button after release. It is no longer the main action. Follow the store page if you want news in your Steam client. The 100,000-wishlist line is a launch brag from Cauchemar, not a promise about review scores.

What the studio posted immediately around launch

Use Steam news as the primary source. Three posts matter for this snapshot:

  • 12 Sep 2026 — WE ARE FINALLY READY!. After weeks of testing, optimization, and late nights, Cauchemar said Rehaunted was finally ready to ship. That post is also where the studio published Steam Deck performance claims, upscaler support, and kit rebuilds (magnifier, UV interactions, phone events). It is not a hotfix changelog.
  • 14 Sep 2026 — Rehaunted is OUT NOW!. The game launched at $7.99 with a 10% launch discount. The studio called out nearly 100,000 wishlists as unreal from their side of the desk.
  • 14 Sep 2026 — UPDATE 01 – First Fixes & Improvements. The first named patch. Shader 0% skip, enclosed-room spawn adjustments, photo-blind run-through collision, longer haunting tutorial. Full wiki reading: Update 01 Patch Notes.

There is still no “1.0.1” build ID in those posts. This page will not invent one. Update 01 is the numbered hotfix Cauchemar actually published. “Launch build” is only the correct phrase if Steam has not yet downloaded that news item onto your client.

The studio site cauchemarstudio.com is under construction. Do not wait on it for patch notes. Email for press or contact is contact@cauchemarstudio.com — that is not a support ticket system with an SLA.

Mixed reviews, small sample — read that sentence twice

At launch the Steam all-reviews line sat at Mixed, about 40% positive from roughly 15 user reviews. That is a real score and a tiny sample. It can swing on a single afternoon. It is not “universally hated” and it is not “secretly loved.” It is early and split.

What that means for you:

  • If you want atmosphere, a contradictory crime scene, and a short detective loop, the review page is the place to argue quality. This launch-notes page will not pretend Mixed-on-15 is a Metacritic novel.
  • If you want a stable UI, read the bug list below before you decide Mixed is “just taste.” Some of the negativity is technical.
  • If you are writing a comment, wait until you have finished the two-to-three hours. Launch-week pile-ons on a 15-review sample are how scores become noise.

Press context from before launch: IGN ran an announcement piece and a seven-minute gameplay drop in July–August 2026. Those are trailers and hands-off / footage pieces, not review scores. Links live on the links page.

Known launch issues (player-facing, not official patch notes)

Cauchemar has not posted a formal known-issues bulletin this wiki can quote. The following are the problems already in circulation. Reproduce them; do not mythologize them.

Shader screen stuck at 0% (Update 01). If first boot hangs on a compile bar, continue to the Main Menu. The studio says that screen appears only on first launch. Details: Update 01 Patch Notes.

Radio dialogue timer. Prompts can expire, stick, or ignore a finding you just radioed in. Mitigation: stop moving, face a quiet corner, key the radio, pick a line. Do not start a conversation during a chase. If the widget dies, pause, then reload if the partner is permanently muted. Details: tips and bugs and the radio section of the detective toolkit.

Stuck radial menu / flashlight overlay. The tool wheel or a UV blob can own the screen. Mitigation: re-open the radial, toggle the light, pause, quit to menu. Practice the wheel in a safe room using controls so you are not learning it during a scare.

Entity spawns (partly addressed in Update 01). Launch players reported the tall woman appearing too close, too sudden, or in geometry that does not make sense — including small rooms with no way out. Update 01 says hauntings should no longer spawn enemies inside small or enclosed rooms with no escape space, and that after you photograph the entity and blind it you can run through it. Play that designed interrupt with how to survive. If a spawn is still nonsense (through a wall, looping, no-exit after the patch), reload the checkpoint or session rather than rebuilding your entire case file around a leftover glitch.

Clipping. Camera or body through walls, props, or stairs. Mitigation: step back, pause, reload. Do not “sequence break” on purpose; the campaign is short enough that a clip is a wasted sitting, not a speedrun trick.

If you hit something else (audio loops, save issues, achievement misfires), log it on Steam discussions with Windows 11 build, GPU, and input device. Do not DM random wiki editors and expect a hotfix.

Where to watch patches after this snapshot

  1. Steam news — official. Update 01 already lives there.
  2. Steam discussions — reproduction, not gospel. The Update 01 post asks for feedback here.
  3. This wiki’s Update 01 Patch Notes and updates hub — we add a dated page when a news post exists.
  4. tips and bugs — workarounds that remain true after a patch should stay; ones that a patch kills should be marked dated. Radio and radial were not in Update 01.

Steam Deck: studio claims versus the store Unknown badge

Do not flatten these two sentences into one.

  • Steam store: Deck compatibility is Unknown. Valve has not published a Verified / Playable / Unsupported badge this wiki can treat as final.
  • Cauchemar, 12 Sep ready post: the game is fully playable start to finish on Steam Deck. On Medium and High, performance is generally around 30–40 FPS and stays above 30; Low can go higher. FSR or Intel XeSS and Frame Generation need to be enabled to hit those numbers. The same post says DLSS, FSR, and XeSS are supported, Unreal Engine was optimized in depth, and the game can run on hardware with as little as 6 GB of VRAM.

Studio testing is not a Valve badge. If you buy a Deck copy because the ready post is optimistic, you are taking the studio’s word, not Steam’s verification program. The comparison, settings, and caveats live on Steam Deck. Feature badges on the store may still lag because Steam is “learning about this game.”

Should you play on day one?

Play now if:

  • Your PC meets system requirements.
  • You want a short contradictory detective case and can tolerate a messy UI.
  • You are willing to pause and reload instead of fighting a stuck overlay for forty minutes.

Wait if:

  • You need Windows 10, a Valve Deck-Verified badge (the studio claim is not that badge), or a console SKU.
  • Radio and radial bugs are deal-breakers for you on a two-hour game. Update 01 did not list those.
  • You only buy Mixed titles after several documented hotfixes. In that case, follow Steam news; the first named patch is already logged.

The investigation itself — Connor, the unnamed victim, the radio partner, the tall presence — is unchanged by a price discount. How fairly the tools work is the thing a patch can fix. Keep the walkthrough for routing, and keep this page for the build you are actually running.
